Equine Assisted Growth & Learning Association
EAGALA
Equine Assisted Growth & Learning Association
Founded in 1999 by Lynn Thomas and Greg Kersten, the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association is a non-profit organization developed to “address the need for resources, education, and professionalism in the field of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy.”
The Vision of EAGALA states that the organization is “dedicated to improving the mental health of individuals, families, and groups,” placing it firmly in mental health & psychotherapy. The tenets of EAGALA include brief, solution-focused therapy, and a team-centered approach with a three-fold philosophy that includes these tenants:
- Change occurs when people are outside their comfort zone
- People don’t change unless they are challenged
- The most effective change occurs if people find their own answers to their questions.
EAGALA therapy takes place 100% on the ground, and the standards, ethics, and certification structure is the most sophisticated, and includes rigorous and definitive standards. EAGALA offers several levels of training, and supervision is instrumental to certification. Visit the EAGALA website by clicking here!
